Jonee Q biography.

Jonee Q, aka Michael Urquhart, got hooked on dance music at the age of 18 when a stack of acid house and classic techno was stored in his flat by a friend.   Not surprisingly his buddy freaked when he found he’d brought round exactly 666 records and, fearing darker forces, took one home.

It was all in vain. The devil still found work for idle hands to do and the lure of all that vinyl proved to be irresistible. Two cheap belt-drives were soon found and within months Jonee Q’s deck skills were hot enough to land him a residency at Aberdeen, Scotland’s legend-in-the-making, Kia-aura.

But Jonee Q couldn’t rest there.

He laid hands on a Roland’s 808 Groove Box sampler and JP 8000 synth and began cutting-up raw, bootleg trax for his part in the two-man, four-deck DJ mash-up that came to shape the uninhibited sound of the club.

Production and original writing skills were further honed along with members of Kia- aura’s in-house techno cabaret band, Optoplan and, with vocalist L’il Lola coming on board, this led to debut releases on the Flat and Round label.

Jonee Q then started to stretch his talents as a lyricist and a singer for the Flygaric Tracks ‘Self Abuse’. He then went on to co-write electro house track ‘Mixed-Up’, on Classic.

Jonee Q’s now also behind the mixing console for hotly-tipped electro-dub-punk
funk outfit Aka The Fox but even while building this head of steam, he still finds time to relax with heavy doses of Herbert, Lee Perry and guacamole.
